Uppsala (bis)

The day started with rain - what a pleasure to listen to the rain from inside a house!
Then began the Uppsala delights - the botanic garden in cloudy weather, the treasures of the Carolina Rediviva (where I bought some books, how am I going to carry them home?), the delicious 16th century Carta Marina, the intriguing Codex Argenteus, the spacious reading room; then to the Gustavianum for other treasures, the Augsburg art cabinet both enclosed and disclosed, including a mirror anamorphosis and countless curious objects and instruments, just below Olof Rudbeck's anatomical theatre in which just a few bodies were in fact dissected, seven bridges (as many as sins, Bergman noted), floating gardens, distinguished walnut trees, an honorable elm next to an elegant laburnum, the botanic garden transfigured in the evening sun, and, of course, a raccoon - le raton-laveur...
And then new conversational pleasures with Petter, Linnea and Agnes: education systems, ways of saying hello and good-bye, polite protocols and proxemy. So many delights! Tomorrow I'm cycling to Stockholm, and new wonders.
